Features
  • 89% Merino wool/11% nylon knit fabric.
  • Four things to know about QOR’s 17.5 Merino products: 1. Fiber size: 17.5 is the width of the fiber measured in microns. The smaller the better. 17.5 is rare (fine cashmere starts at 16), has zero itch and feels super soft next to your skin. 2. Fabric weight: This is measured in grams/square meter (GM). It depends on your level of activity, of course, but 200GM and lower is about right from late spring through early fall. It could be used as a baselayer or single layer. Weights above 200GM might be more appropriate from late fall through early spring, and while some will be baselayers, most will become midlayers, or even outerwear at the higher weight. 3. How it ‘works’: The Merino absorbs moisture vapor from your skin - up to 30% of its weight before it even begins to feel wet. Pulling moisture off your skin gives you a cooling sensation when it’s warm and a warming sensation when it’s cold (we are not making this up). And that same moisture-absorbing property also fights odor because bacteria can’t grow in a dry environment. 4. It’s wrapped: Our 17.5 Merino has a little bit of nylon in it. In this case the nylon is formed into an extremely thin monofilament and the Merino is ‘wrapped’ around it. Gives the fabric a great deal of strength – especially important at the lighter weights.
  • So what’s this mean in practical terms? You see that guy enjoying the single track? Means his shirt will likely feel dry when he’s finished his 3-mile recovery run. It also means he could wear that same shirt in the office for the rest of the day; he could wear it if he goes out to dinner, and he could wear it home.
